New Year, New Tax Team

EJK is ringing in the New Year with Jaye Kubo, our new tax preparer. While Randy Lake enjoys the luxuries of retirement, Jaye will lead our tax department, and work with clients to prepare both personal and business returns.

Jaye joins EJK with 20 years of experience in public accounting and private practice. She focuses on comprehensive tax planning, consulting and compliance services to corporate and partnership clients and their owners as well as not-for-profit organizations. Jaye will also assist with federal and state tax compliance, IRS negotiations, and organizational mergers. Learn more about Jaye’s experience here.

And the winner is…EJ Kim!

EJK Accounting was flattered to have our very own president be honored with the Golden Boot Award at the tSB Luau last Sunday. Between rocking out to Kore Ionz at Nectar Lounge, and enjoying Pai’s food truck, EJ was pleasantly surprised when they announced her name along with two other tSB rock stars as winners of this year’s award. EJ was specifically cited for her dedication to the tSB Board of Directors, and her support in youth activities, fundraising, and sponsorship. Congratulations to EJ, and a shout out to the Service Board for your amazing programs!

New Ordinance: Seattle Paid Sick leave

As of September 1, 2012, the City of Seattle will require employers to offer paid sick and safe time to their employees. Here’s what you need to know:

All businesses with 5+ employees are required to track employee hours worked, and sick and safe time accrued and used.
Sick and safe time includes leave for mental or physical illness, the need to care for a family member, and other reasons (more details here).
Required accrual rates are based on the number of employees per business. See requirements here.

Golden Boot Awards

This year’s Golden Boot Awards will be celebrated Lu’au style, at Seattle’s premier live-music stage, Nectar Lounge. This event will showcase the work of tSB youth, mentors, and community partners with live music, a silent auction, and dinner. The Lu’au will be held on Sunday, August 11 at 5pm. EJK will be there to represent, and we hope to see everyone else there too! Get your tickets here.
